We invest in what we value. And our actions reveal the truth, even when our words say otherwise.

I hope you’re still sitting with the questions from Sunday’s message, doing the work with the Spirit to figure out what might be a rosebush (weed) in your cornfield.

For me personally, I say I value my marriage. The Bible tells us all to (Hebrews 13:4), but my actions don’t always follow.

Sometimes they do.

Because I value my marriage, I show up quarterly to our church’s Marriage Matters meetings to meaningfully invest in my relationship with Rachel. I also try to seek out things that stir my heart toward making our marriage better and more of a priority.

The Grace Marriage podcast has been one of those things. This morning I listened to an episode called “Is Your Marriage Taking a Back Seat to Your Kids?”. It’s countercultural and challenging, but biblical and true. Sometimes even our kids can become roses in our cornfield.

Give it a listen if you’re noticing something growing where your marriage should be getting your attention. If your cornfield right now is something else, a friendship, a calling, your own walk with God, the rosebush choking it will look different. But the question is the same: what good thing has taken root where it doesn’t belong, and what would it take to pull it?

I pray this blesses you and helps you not just hear the word, but cooperate with the Spirit to actually do what it says (James 1:22).
