Revelation 1 | Unveiled Hope
This week we’re starting a new series I’m super excited about. And honestly, a little intimidated by.
We’ll be studying the book of Revelation for the next 21 weeks. Don’t panic — we won’t be doing it straight through. We’ll break it up to make it more manageable. But for most of this school year, we’ll be living in this book together.
I’m curious how that makes you feel as you read this.
Some of you are thrilled. Finally, Levi is going to tell us which world leader is the Antichrist. (Is it Putin? Trump? Obama? A tech CEO? Sally from accounts? Canada? Honestly, Canadians are way too nice, so they’re definitely up to something.) Finally, we’ll find out how AI is fulfilling prophecy, how data centers are the Beast of Babylon rising from the sea, and why using Apple Pay, subscribing to Netflix/Prime/Disney+ or drinking Bud Light is the Mark of the Beast!
If that’s what you’re hoping for… prepare to be disappointed.
Treating Revelation like a prophetic Da Vinci Code we’re supposed to crack using modern news headlines isn’t just exhausting — it’s irresponsible. But sadly, it’s how most of us come at this book. The result? We have a complicated relationship with it. Fear. Confusion. A vague sense that we’re not smart enough to figure out the math.
My hope as we walk through this together is to clear the clutter. I want to give you what I believe this book was actually designed to give — not just to first-century Christians receiving John’s letter, but to us, right now, in this present age. Not some future generation down the road when the end finally begins.
The apocalypse is now. “Apocalypse” simply means unveiling. And John’s apocalypse unveils hope for a church, a people of God who are hard-pressed but never crushed.
We’re going to read this book the way it was written to be read: for real people under real pressure who needed to see what is really true, reality as it really is!
This Sunday in Revelation 1, we’re going to look at what John saw as he worshipped on a lonely rock in the Aegean Sea. What he saw got him off the floor and back on his feet, filled with hope.
I think it’ll do the same for us.
Bring someone who needs hope. See you Sunday.
